A culinary travel company that is an exploration of the natural world and local communities using the connective and restorative power of food and cooking.

Aimed at slowing the world down and absorbing into our natural surroundings and environment.

Finding true connections, finding our place, finding opportunities, finding our roots, finding…. thyme.

We create experiences for those who are searching for more—from both themselves and their surroundings. A chance to be a part of our environment, not apart from our environment.

Whether riding high alpine passes or exploring secluded coastlines, gathered around a fire or a dinner table, our experiences are grounded in a pursuit of the new and the old—where every step is part of a larger narrative.

The connective power of food and cooking

Eating Together.

The simple joys of sharing food and passing plates around the table are seldom matched. Each smile creates a memory. Each dish becomes a new favorite recipe.

The stories that are shared followed by deep laughter create new bonds of friendship. Eating and cooking together are soul-filling rituals that go back as far as the human spirit. They are acts that bring us together in a place where only the “right now” matters.

People who may not normally meet, come together at the table and in the kitchen and within a small amount of time are great friends.

Every table at a Finding Thyme experience is a community table.

Our connection to fire

Cooking with Fire.

Fire has always stood as an evolutionary symbol of warmth, safety, and community. It provides a simple and natural refuge from our daily busy lives.

We have an undeniable bond with fire.

A place for us to gather around and cook and nurture our families and friends. The flavor given from open flame strikes a note of a home cooked meal. Mastering cooking over fire has been one of the longest trades known to humans.

Our Finding Thyme experiences are built around these ideals. These almost primal instincts to connect on a deeper level as we gather around a fire and a dinner table. We share time and memories as we were meant to, together.

Where we belong.

The Power of Nature.

It all starts with a step into the forest or the ocean. It just feels familiar in a way you can’t describe but know you recognize. You feel it in your soul, the connection that was once there and is yearning to come back. We, as humans, are a part of the natural world and a piece of its success. We are a part of the big picture.

We have created a world that is now designed to pull us away from that connection we crave. It’s loud and fast and filled with stresses and distractions. It is designed to mimic nature yet lacks the true feeling and interwoven life-force of what is really out there for us.

Nature calls to us to be a part, not be apart. By stepping back into nature we learn to be stewards not only of the land, but ourselves as people and a part of this world. We learn to read the landscapes differently, more simply, as if we had been there before.

It truly is where we belong.

We are dedicated to reshaping the narrative of our lives. Connecting to the people, the sights, the sounds, and the time and place, through practicing presence and intentionally in our thoughts and movements.

We learn about our environments from the people that farm, forage, and harvest the lands. Learning to be better stewards of ourselves and our lands.

Our Founder

Evan Hennessey

An idea turned reality, putting the puzzle pieces together…

From always being connected to the natural world through hiking, trail running and rock climbing, Evan grew up with the outdoors being part of his soul. After 30 years of professional cooking, including owning 3 restaurants, many television competition shows, James Beard nominations, Best Restaurant lists, and a host of other accolades, he found an inspiring way to bond all of his loves together in one space.

Using the connective and primal power of food and cooking to join people together, he created Finding Thyme.

Evan lives in the woods of South Berwick, ME with his kids and dogs
